GALLERY 3 does not exist as a permanent physical space; it is a way of describing a network of activities that expand or contextualize the Douglas Hyde Gallery's main exhibition programme. These activities can take many forms: a talk, a musical performance, a book, a show. GALLERY 3 is intended to fulfil two purposes. First, it connects the exhibitions to wider cultural and social contexts; second it brings new audiences into the gallery and, from time to time, take the gallery out to them.
Leaves and Papers I-VI
Last summer six artists were asked to write about and illustrate, as openly as possible, their personal interests and values. Such directness is unusual in a contemporary art world that is more often concerned with detached 'critical discourse', so the artists all responded differently to the invitation. Their contributions are being presented as a box of leaflets, the first in a new series of Douglas Hyde Gallery publications entitled Leaves and Papers. The publication is available from the Gallery for 30 including post and packaging.
