The Paradise [6]
Chris Marker

12 April - 01 June 2002

In this series of exhibitions, artists make a selection of work that reflects their idea of 'The Paradise'.

Paradise: [1] an enclosed garden [2] the garden of Eden [3] a place of bliss, felicity, or delight [4] heaven

Chris Marker, photographer, filmmaker, and the author of at least two cinematic masterpieces, La Jetee and Sans Soleil, is known for the extraordinary way in which he combines 'fiction' and 'reality'. In Sans Soleil, for example, photography, documentary film, popular cinema, and reflective writing are brought together in the form of a visual essay that is infused with Marker's acute awareness of the fragile beauty of the world and of the deep malaise at the heart of contemporary Western culture.

Immemory is a CD-Rom filled with images and texts, categorised in various ways, through which the viewer creates his or her own path. The random or whimsical choices made by the viewer gradually intensify and coalesce, creating a temporary bridge into the artist's inner world.

A publication documenting the first ten exhibitions in The Paradise series is available.
