The Paradise [40]
Gallery 2

May 30 - July 16, 2013

Paradise: [1] an enclosed garden [2] the garden of Eden [3] a place of bliss, felicity, or delight [4] heaven

The paintings in this exhibition take their starting point from fieldwork undertaken by the artist. They capture the transitory experience of a journey in an otherworldly setting. The weather-beaten feel to the work might suggest a former paradise; a view of a place that is perhaps more dystopian than heavenly.

Ciaran Murphy previously exhibited at the Douglas Hyde Gallery in 2010 with a solo show in Gallery 1. The exhibition was accompanied by a publication with images of the artist's paintings and source material. He has recently completed a residency at the Tony O'Malley Studio in Callan, and he is represented by GRIMM, Amsterdam.
